A car 'exploded three times' and burst into flames in the car park of a Sainsbury's in Leeds.

The car burst into flames in Royal Park Road in Hyde Park on Monday.

No-one was injured but a passer-by said the "car exploded three separate times with people quite close to it".

He added that he saw the car on fire in the car park as he was heading into the Sainsbury's local and that "you could see the smoke all over Hyde Park".

A fire crew attended from Moortown Fire Station.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "There has been a car fire in Royal Park Road today in Hyde Park, Leeds.

"The time of call into our Control Room was 14.11 hrs and Moortown Fire Station’s crew attended.

"They dealt with the fire and left at 14.57 hrs.

"No-one was injured."
