Cannabis plants found in former pub basement

Hundreds of cannabis plants have been discovered in the basement of a former west Yorkshire pub.

Police busted the cannabis farm when they were called to reports of a possible burglary at the old Spindle Tree pub in Stanley.

Officers attended the address on Aberford Road on Thursday, May 19, and uncovered 370 plants growing on the first floor and in the basement of the property, which had been left open.

They also found lights and growing equipment.

Inspector Mark Chamberlain of the Wakefield District 
Neighbourhood Police Team said: “We are continuing to investigate this substantial 
discovery and would like to speak to anyone who may have seen or have information about 
suspicious behaviour at 
this property in recent weeks, 
particularly during evenings.

“Forensic examinations have been conducted at the scene .

“We believe this was quite a sophisticated operation which may have been ongoing for some time.”

A vehicle was recovered from the premises and enquiries are ongoing.
