A court heard Sandor Korodi agreed to sell the drug from the property in Harehills on behalf of more serious criminals.

Police went to the house on Bayswater Grove on November 25 last year in relation to a different incident.

Korodi answered the door but the officers were unable to get inside because of a metal security gate.

Korodi told the officers he needed to get the key for it and went upstairs.

Moments later the officers saw a black bag being thrown from the bathroom window into a bin yard below.

The bag was recovered and found to contain 83 smaller bags of skunk cannabis with a street value of £1,450

Robert Galley, prosecuting, said £275 in cash was seized from the property.

Mr Galley said the house did not contain any furniture but a security camera was fitted above the front door.

He said: "It may be that the occupants would need to be safe inside because of the drug dealing that was occurring."

The court heard another man had been arrested at the house last August after being found in possession of drugs.

Korodi, 40, pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

Kara Frith, mitigating, said Korodi had agreed to sell cannabis from the property after being approached by other criminals.

He was responsible for the drugs and cash in the property.

Miss Frith added: "He was in a run-down property that was in a cockroach-infested condition."

She added that Korodi had worked at a car wash but decided to try to earn extra money as he was under financial pressure to support his family.

The court heard the defendant's wife and child have now returned to Romania and he has been disowned by his family because of the offence.

Miss Frith added: "He has shamed them. It has cost him those who are closest to him.

"Although he was under the influence of others, he made the choice and his motive was clearly financial."

Korodi was given an 11-month prison sentence, suspended for 24 months.

He was also ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work and complete a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

Judge Simon Phillips, QC, said: "You took the decision to boost your income by selling drugs. you yourself are not addicted to drugs."
