Burglar targeted his friend's house in Leeds then attacked him with a brick

Kyle Major, 26, was caught after incriminating CCTV was obtained of him selling electrical items stolen in the burglary at a Cash Converters store.

Leeds Crown Court heard Kyle had been at his friend’s home in Armley, Leeds, on November 16 last year before they left to walk into Leeds city centre together. During the journey Major made an excuse that he had to leave to meet other friends.

He returned to his friend’s home and kicked in a window in before stealing an Xbox and a television.

Police were contacted after Major’s friend spotted his belongings for sale at the Cash Converters store.

Mehran Nassiri prosecuting, said the victim confronted Major after seeing him in a street in Armley three weeks later.

Major threw a brick at him, causing him to suffer a fracture to his hand.

Major denied the offence and committed another burglary, on August 20 this year, three days before he was due to go on trial.

He forced his way in to property on Cross Green Street, Hunslet, and stole a mobile phone and two jackets worth £640.

Major was linked to the offence after his fingerprints were found at the scene.

Major, of York Road, Leeds, pleaded guilty to two offences of burglary and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He has previous convictions for theft, criminal damage and harassment.

Michael Walsh, mitigating, said Major had a history of mental health problems and drug abuse and needed help to tackle his problems.

Mr Walsh said his client was homeless and living in a tent at the time the incident.

He was jailed for 28 months.

Jailing Major, Recorder Simon Eckersley said: “It may be that, for a period of time, the best place for you is prison.”
