Burglar caught on camera trying to sell £2,000 worth of stolen goods at Cash Converters store

Anthony Carrington was locked up for two years and four months after a court heard it is his tenth conviction for domestic burglary.

Carrington kicked open the front door of a flat on Westgate, Wakefield, while the victim was out at work on November 19 last year.

Andrew Horton, prosecuting, said a television, mobile phone, lap top computer and a wallet were taken during the burglary.

Carrington then used one of the victim's bank cards to buy goods from a Sainbury's store on Alverthorpe Road.

The defendant was arrested after police officers looked at CCTV footage from a Cash Converters store and saw him offering the items for sale.

The 33-year-old was interviewed and denied taking the property in a burglary.

He claimed he had found the items in a storage cupboard.

A shoe print recovered from the store of the burgled flat matched Carrington's footwear.

Carrington, of Plumpton Road, Darnley, Wakefield, pleaded guilty to burglary and two offences of fraud.

Kate Bisset, mitigating, said Carrington had been "institutionalised" after spending most of his adult life in prison.

She added that the defendant had been diagnosed with ADHD.

Jailing Carrington, Judge Mushtaq Khokhar said: "Your record is such that it merits a custodial sentence."
