A pervert who fled to Thailand while being investigated for possession of indecent images of children has been jailed for five years.

Simon Paul Watson, 45, formerly of Ilkley, was tracked down in Bangkok after a three-year hunt by police.

Watson had already served time for similar offences when he vanished in 2009 whilst on bail for further charges.

Officers began a major operation to track him down, and Watson was finally picked up in Thailand, where he was arrested and deported.

He was arrested at Heathrow airport, and brought back to Leeds Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to 17 charges.

Detective Inspector Chris Stones said: “It is down to the extensive enquiries and tireless work of our officers, as well as work with agencies both here in the UK and Thailand that we were able to locate Simon Watson. Watson’s actions can only lead me to believe he poses a significant threat to children.”
