Arson arrest after fire breaks out at Leeds tower block

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire at a block of flats in Bramley.

West Yorkshire Police were called by the fire service shortly before midnight on Thursday, April 23.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service put out a fire at a ground floor flat in Poplar Mount 2.

A woman in the flat made her way to safety and no one was injured.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and is currently in custody."

A scene remains in place in Poplar Nount to undergo forensic examination and enquiries are ongoing.

The spokesman added: "Any who witnessed anything or who has any information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact Leeds District Safeguarding Unit via 101 quoting crime reference 13200202666 or online via www.westyorkshire.police.uk/101livechat
