Armed police in five-hour stand off in Leeds street before man arrested

Police were called to a house on Branksome Place in Hyde Park at 4pm on Tuesday to make enquiries about a possible arrest.
When they arrived, they became concerned for the welfare of a man inside the property in relation to self-harm.

Hide AdA cordon was put in place and a number of ambulances were called to the scene, as officers attempted to negotiate with the man and bring the incident to an end.
The stand-off continued for nearly five hours before police forced entry into the house, arrested the man and found two BB guns.
The man was taken to hospital for a suspected overdose and is continuing to receive treatment.
During the incident distraction devices which make loud bangs were used, after nearby residents reported hearing loud bangs that sounded like 'gunshots'.

Hide AdA spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: "A cordon was put in place while attempts were made to negotiate with the man and bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
"After concerns for the man’s welfare increased, armed officers forced entry to the house at about 8.40pm and arrested him.
"The man was taken to hospital for a suspected overdose and is continuing to receive treatment. His condition is not believed to be life threatening."
