17-year-old arrested in hospital after being stabbed during fight on Kirkstall bus

A 17-year-old has been arrested and is still in hospital after he was stabbed during a fight on a bus in Kirkstall.

The fight happened on the top deck of a 49 service First Bus on Saturday January 9 at around 3pm.

The 17-year-old male was stabbed when the bus was near to the junction of Broad Lane and Wyhter Lane in Bramley.

He was taken to hospital with serious, but not life threatening injuries, and he remains in hospital.

He has been arrested on suspicion of affray and anyone with information is being asked by police to come forward.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "At 2.47pm on Saturday (9/1) police were called to an incident where a 17-year-old male had been stabbed during a fight on the top deck of a bus near to the junction of Broad Lane and Wyther Lane, Bramley.

"He was taken to hospital with serious injuries that were not considered life threatening. He remains in hospital and has been arrested on suspicion of affray.

"Detectives from Leeds District CID are continuing to carry out enquiries into the incident.

"Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A spokesperson for First Bus, said: “We can confirm that a passenger on our 49 service bus in Leeds was attacked this afternoon and our driver acted swiftly in contacting the emergency services who have now closed the road.

"This was a serious incident and we will work closely with the Police as part of their investigation, including providing access to our CCTV - which is fitted to all our buses in Leeds.”

There was a police cordon in place on Saturday stretching from Broad Lane up to the junction with the B6157.

Bus detours affected 49 and 91 services and there were delays around the general area.
