The two men went out shortly before the incident, leaving the woman asleep in bed.

Louise Pryke, prosecuting, said Chadwick forced open a door and took a knife from the kitchen before going into the living room where he took a TV and a Playstation.

The two men returned home and found Chadwick covered in blood with injuries to his face.

Miss Pryke said Chadwick appeared to be under the influence of drugs.

The two men closed the living room door and contacted police.

Chadwick then managed to open the door and lunged at the men with the weapon.

Chadwick, of no fixed address, was arrested at the scene and later told police he could not remember how he had received his injuries.

He pleaded guilty to burglary.

Chadwick has a long criminal history, including offences of burglary.

The court heard much of his offending had been carried out to fund his addiction to amphetamines.

Jailing Chadwick, The Recorder of Leeds, judge Peter Collier, QC, said: "The occupants came back and found you in a crazed state."
