Council vehicles damaged in Harrogate warehouse blaze

Firefighters were called to a serious blaze in a warehouse used for storing Council vehicles in Harrogate.

The alarm was raised at 8.40 pm on Tuesday and two crews from Harrogate fire station raced to the warehouse in Claro Road.

They summoned back-up from Ripon, Wetherby and Knaresborough and also called out Harrogate's aerial platform.

The corrugated metal warehouse was used to contain 13 Council heavy goods vehicles including gritters

The firefighters had to cut their way into the building and spent almost two hours tackling the blaze.

Four vehicles suffered fire damage, and the rest were damaged by heat and smoke.

The cause is believed to have been an electrical fault on one of the gritters.
