Council still investigating mysterious noise heard for second night running in Leeds

The council are still investigating a strange noise that has been heard throughout Leeds during the last two evenings.

Residents have been using social media to try and get to the bottom of what is causing the unusual sound, which has been described as a high pitch hum or buzz.

Members of the public claimed it began on Thursday evening and did not end until the early hours of the morning, before cranking up again on Friday evening.

A Leeds City Council spokesperson said that the noise definitely wasn't coming from LERF incinerator, but that investigations were still underway.

The spokesperson said: "We have received a number of reports from residents and were working to contact local businesses in an effort to ascertain the source of the noise."

The council operates a night-time response service in partnership with West Yorkshire Police.

If the problem is noise outside of office hours, please ring 0113 376 0337. This is available from 6pm to 3:30am.

Noise at night-time should only be reported when the noise is occurring. If the noise stops before the team attends, please ring back to cancel the request.

The team aim to call customers back to check the noise is still ongoing and gather more information before attending'‹.
