WAKEFIELD Council has 15 new gritters and 6,500 tonnes of grit as it prepares for winter - but is urging the public to “come together” and play their part in keeping roads and pavements clear of snow and ice.
There are over 340 grit bins across the district which will be restocked by the end of the month, but when severe weather hits, the Council will focus on priority routes to ensure services stay open.
Coun David Dagger, cabinet member for transport and highways, urged people to sign up to become a snow warden.
He added: “We hope that everyone will come together again this year to help keep our roads and pavements clear of snow and ice.”
