Could you house a dog that’s been waiting for 18 months?

Lucy has been overlooked at the Dogs Trust in Leeds for 18 months while more than 1,000 of her canine companions have found new homes.

The seven-year-old was brought to the York Road centre by the charity’s staff after they received a call from the police in March last year.

Amanda Sands, manager at York Road, said: “The police were at a house where sadly a man had passed away and his two dogs had been found at the address with him.

“I and another staff member went to the house immediately and brought both dogs, Jack and Lucy, back with us.

“It was such a sad situation, losing their owner and everything that was familiar to them. Our hearts went out to them.

“Despite what he’d been through, Jack was really confident and happy, but Lucy had been badly affected by what had happened.

“She was very nervous around people and other dogs so although we always do our absolute best to rehome dogs together if they come in together, in this case we felt it was in their interests to look for two loving homes for them.”

The charity said Lucy would thrive in a quiet home or a household with older teenagers. She enjoys long walks in the countryside and would need to be the only dog in the house.

Amanda said: “She is a sweet girl and loves travelling in the car, so anyone that enjoys getting out and about for a good walk would suit her!

“She will make someone a lovely companion. Now we’re just waiting for them to walk through the door.”
