Convenience store ordered to close early due to 'intimidating youths'

A convenience store in Harehills has been slapped with trading restrictions after gangs of youths began congregating outside.

Al Madina must now shut at 7pm each evening since a closure order was approved by Leeds Magistrates Court.

Police applied for the notice to be imposed following a spate of complaints about anti-social behaviour in the Sandhursts and Dorsets area, close to the shop on Dorset Road.

A statement from the Leeds Inner East beat team read:

"Following numerous complaints from members of the public, West Yorkshire Police have worked in partnership with the Leeds Anti-Social Behaviour Team at Leeds City Council to tackle this issue. One of the main complaints from local residents was about youths hanging around the Al Madina convenience store, causing a nuisance and intimidating residents. Officers have attended Leeds Magistrates Court and been granted a Closure Order on the premises to reduce the issue. As a result the court has restricted the opening hours of the shop to close at 7pm each evening. We will continue to tackle this issue."
