Construction set to start on £8m transformation of '˜eyesore' site in Leeds

Yorkshire-based property and investment company Opus North is developing the retail park at the former Denso Marston site on Armley Road.

Demolition work at the four-acre site started last month and bosses say the construction phase of the project will get under way “shortly”.

As previously reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, the park will be occupied by Lidl, B&M Home Store and Farmfoods when it opens early next summer.

Opus North managing director Andrew Duncan said: “We are very proud of transforming a derelict eyesore in a prominent area of west Leeds into a first-class retail park, with household names as occupiers.”

He added: “Our sizeable investment in Armley is bringing more choice to shoppers and providing a major boost to the local economy.”

Opus North sold part of the site to Lidl for its store while Palmer Capital Income Fund purchased the rest of the land and brought in B&M Home Store and Farmfoods as tenants.

Together the sales raised £8m, which has been hailed as “an excellent deal for all concerned” by Mr Duncan.

Manufacturing company Denso Marston moved to new premises in Shipley in the 1990s.
