Motorists also faced long delays on the M62 eastbound after an accident between junction 25, Brighouse, and junction 27, Gildersome, and a broken down vehicle earlier this morning.

West Yorkshire Police said there had been no reports of accidents in Leeds that could have contributed to the heavy traffic.
