Ever wondered what it would be like to be a fly on the wall of a Beatles’ recording session?
A new blockbuster stage show coming to Leeds next year will offer fans that very chance.
Leeds First Direct Arena is set to be transformed into Abbey Road Studio Two for a unique musical spectacular featuring live renditions of Beatles’ classics.
The groundbreaking show will place the audience around three sides, with the reconstructed studio taking centre stage on the floor where no fewer than 45 people will help create the unique multi-track sound of the Beatles.
The seven vocalists - comprising of two Johns, Pauls, Georges and Ringos - will aim to recreate the band’s vocal harmonies, alongside the 21-piece orchestra and seven further musicians who use historically accurate instruments to capture the Beatles’ sound.
The production is inspired by Here, There and Everywhere - the memoir of former Abbey Road sound engineer Geoff Emerick, who was the show’s creative consultant.
In an exclusive interview with the YEP, the show’s producer Jef Hanlon explained the concept was so exciting it brough him out of retirement, after a 40-year career as a promoter for acts including Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Bay City Rollers, Diana Ross and The Clash. “One thing about this show is it’s absolutely unique. What we are doing has never been done before. The audience is on three sides of the stage.
“It’s quite intimate. Leeds has such a super new arena. It’s fabulous. I think it’s going to be incredible there.”
He stressed it is not a look-a-like show but a sound-a-like show.
“We have the voices to do it. We have the best Beatles voices we could find - the singers are coming from all over the world. It’s a great night out. Great music - music that changed the world.”
Stig Edgren, the show’s executive producer said: “‘The Sessions - A live re-staging of the Beatles at Abbey Road Studios’ will be a ‘musical documentary’ giving audiences an honest, respectful and accurate recreation of how musical history was made.”
The Sessions - A live re-staging of the Beatles at Abbey Road Studios will be visiting First Direct Arena on May 10 2016.
