Up until a few years ago it had become somewhat forgotten about, with empty units and a disconnected location, tucked away behind the Dark Arches.

More recently some of the nearby businesses were affected by the Boxing Day floods.

But things are now on the up – with the opening of the new £20m train station entrance and several new bars and restaurants arriving, there is plenty of reasons to celebrate.

And that’s exactly what they intend to do at a brand new music festival.

As previously revealed by City Buzz, Wharfest is a new riverside music festival taking place this weekend at three venues – Candle Bar, The Hop and Archie’s.

Ossett Brewery – the company behind the venues – is running the event, which is free to attend.

It kicks off from 3pm on Saturday, January 30, and will see Candle Bar host several acoustic acts.

The Hop will also have live bands performing on stage and over at Archie’s a range of DJs will be playing sets throughout the day.

A special loyalty card, in the form of a beer mat, will be handed out, giving punters the chance to collect stamps with each drink bought so they can claim a free Wharfest t-shirt.

Fingers crossed the weather holds out, as it could become an annual event if proves to be a success.

The festival is the perfect way to celebrate all the exciting developments at Granary Wharf, so pop down and raise a glass for the local independent businesses.
