CHINESE New Year celebrations are already under way in Leeds, but there's still time to get involved.

For the food fans

Award-winning food offering Mei Mei’s Street Cart is hosting a pop-up diner in Leeds for the occasion.

Wong’s Happiness Diner will serve up dishes such as ribs in peanut chilli oil, spring onion pancake with spicy Hoisin, Szechuan cumin lamb and crispy tofu with cashews and bamboo.

They’re also a screening of hit 1978 Chinese series Monkey Magic.

It will be held at the Grub and Grog Shop at Northern Monk Refectory on Marshall Street from 7pm on Thursday, February 11.

Get involved and learn something new at the Chinese New Year Festival.

The event at Leeds Town Hall will include Chinese music, dance, theatrical performances, lion dancing, calligraphy, Kung Fu, Tai Chi, food, crafts and face painting.

Around 1,000 people are expected to attend the family-friendly event, organised by the Leeds Chinese Community Association.

It runs from 10.30am to 4pm on Sunday, February 14, with workshops from 11am.

Tickets cost £5 or £3 for concessions.

For the youngsters

A special Chinese New Year-themed arts and crafts session for children under the age of five will be held at the Abbey House Museum in Kirkstall,

The free event runs from 10am to 11am on Tuesday, February 16.
