The Christmas season is set to kick off in a flurry of festive sparkle at White Rose Shopping Centre this afternoon with its annual Christmas Parade.

Marking the official start of the festive season at the south Leeds centre, the parade offers a host of yuletide entertainment taking place for shoppers to enjoy.

Santa himself will lead the celebrations, which start at 4.30pm, before retiring to his magical grotto under the Christmas tree in the central atrium.

The event also boasts magical, festive characters marching through the centre, along with traditional carols performed by volunteers from the Hunslet Club.

Also adding to the festive cheer will be volunteers from White Rose’s chosen national charity partner, MENCAP, who will also be marching in the parade.

The parade also marks the start of the centre’s late night shopping hours.

From November 12 to December 23, the White Rose will be open from 9am-10pm Monday to Friday, 9am-8pm on Saturdays and 11am-5pm on Sundays.

Centre manager Dean Stratton said: “We love Christmas here at White Rose and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate the official start of the festive season than with our Christmas Parade.

“There’s going to be loads of seasonal entertainment on offer for shoppers to enjoy, including carol singing, Christmas characters and Santa himself setting up home in his Grotto. This coupled with free parking and the launch of late night shopping means shoppers are in for a real treat. I’d encourage shoppers from across the region to come along and join in with the festive celebrations to help us kick off Christmas at White Rose in style.”
