Two objections have already been lodged online over the proposal.

Helen Deacon, of New Lane, Middleton: “We already have sufficient supermarkets in the area.

“This is in too close proximity to the local Asda.”

Bargain stores Lidl and B&M have already been confirmed as traders which will operate at the proposed development.

Commercial Development Projects said the plan would make use of brownfield land.

It also said that 320 car parking spaces have been proposed for the scheme, 19 of which would be allocated for disabled people, with a further four for parent and child parking, eight for motorcycles and two electric car charging points.
