Car crashed at Leeds roundabout during police pursuit

A stolen car crashed into another vehicle at a busy Leeds roundabout while it was being pursued by police.

The Mercedes, which had been taken from Sheffield yesterday, was first spotted on the M1.

The police helicopter and roads policing officers followed the car from junction 28 of the M62 onto the A650 towards Morley at about 5.15pm.

The Mercedes then did a u-turn back towards junction 28 and crossed into the opposite carriageway before it hit another vehicle on the Tingley roundabout.

Two men in the car ran off onto Dewsbury Road but were detained nearby with help from members of the public.

The 25-year-old and 27-year-old, both from Leeds, were arested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving.

Both are currently in custody and officers are liaising with colleagues in South Yorkshire.
