Cake expectations as iconic Leeds landmarks are made edible in food festival

The edible exhibition by the Tattooed Bakers was the icing on the cake as it was unveiled at Trinity Leeds.

Iconic Leeds buildings have been included in the cake-based creations, such as the Town Hall, Corn Exchange, Kirkgate Market and Broadcasting Tower.

The City of Cake exhibit will offer visitors the chance to grab a fork and take a walk through the sponge and ganache architecture.

Its arrival marks the launch of Leeds Indie Food Festival, which runs until May 30.

Ellie Andrews, owner of The Gallery at Munro House, which collaborated on the City of Cake exhibition, said: “Food, people, art, music, theatre, sport, industry, architecture, and heritage – these are the elements that make up the cultural identity of Leeds.

“We’ve been able to bring all those together in a playful, fun way for the public to enjoy.”

Ellie added: “With the Leeds Culture Strategy currently being produced, we are starting to reflect and observe on what culture actually means for us as a city.

“We hope to spark conversations, inspire, engage, bring people together to collectively celebrate, and talk about the culture of their city, all over a slice of cake.”

“Leeds Indie Food Festival is set to be even bigger and better in May, and having homed some of the best independent street food vendors in Trinity Kitchen over the past few years, it’s great to see an entire festival dedicated to showcasing this kind of culinary talent.”

The Leeds Indie Food Festival is under way now and includes hundreds of events at venues across the city.
