Cadets to march through Leeds to mark Battle of Trafalgar

Hundreds of young cadets will march through Leeds’ city centre to honour the heroes who fought in the Battle of Trafalgar.

More than 300 sea cadets from across Yorkshire will take part in a parade on Sunday in the centre of Leeds.

The parade at 11am is being organised by the City of Leeds Sea Cadets to mark the Royal Navy’s victory over French and Spanish fleets in the 1805 battle.

It will be followed by a service, attended by Coun Judith Chapman, the Lord Mayor of Leeds, at Leeds Cathedral from 1pm-2pm.

Coun Chapman said: “As president of the City of Leeds Sea Cadets I am extremely honoured to join over 300 sea cadets from across Yorkshire this Sunday to mark the annual commemoration of the Battle of Trafalgar.

“It would be fantastic to see the public join us on Sunday to mark Trafalgar Day, which will include an inspection, parade through the city centre by the sea cadets and a special service held at the cathedral.”

Coun Chapman, who is also president of the City of Leeds Sea Cadets, will lead the cadets to Victoria Gardens after the service.

Around 17 Sea Cadet Corps units from across the country are expected to attend the event, which is open to the public.
