INFLUENTIAL women will the guests of honour at an event in Leeds next week.

A rally driver, a journalist and a businesswoman will speak at the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) event on Wednesday.

It will take place at the Park Plaza in Leeds.

Businesswoman Katie Hopkins, rally driver and co-presenter of ITV’s The Used Car Roadshow Penny Mallory and journalist and writer Rachel Bridge will talk about their experiences.

CIMA’s Women in Leadership campaign reflects the organisation’s commitment to supporting the progression of female members into senior roles, as well as to promote the accounting profession to female students.

Katie Hopkins said: “Coming to an event like this is a bit like going to the gym. You know it’s the right thing to do, you feel positive when you are there, and you come away that little bit stronger to face tomorrow.”

Penny Mallory added: “I had to work to be a success in a very male dominated industry but if I can do it so can the women of Leeds.”

Rachel Bridge said: “It is an exciting time for Leeds’ women now.

“This is the time when new styles of leadership are developing and women have the opportunity to decide what these will be for themselves.”

CIMA has recently published a report which found that women are six times less likely than men to be working in top business positions.

Charley Tilley, CIMA chief executive, said: “The fact that men make up just over half of the working population yet hold over 87 per cent of the board positions in the FTSE100 is evidence enough that something needs to change.”
