THE BEST path to making Leeds a hub for finance innovation will be discussed next month at a major summit in the city.

Hosted by NorthInvest in partnership with Leeds City Council, KPMG, Northern Powerhouse and The Yorkshire Post the event seeks to bring together all the significant leaders in the region to debate and form actions around the creation of a cohesive vision and strategy for the sector.

Yorkshire is home to a host of cutting edge tech firms, such as SSP, Callcredit, The Floow, Worldpay and BJSS.

The summit, to be held at the offices of professional services giant KPMG, will bring together the traditional banking sector, along with fintech “disrupters” to try and develop a vision of the fintech future for Leeds and Yorkshire.

The ultimate objective is to eventually draw up a strategy for the sector that involves all aspects of the region’s economy.

Speakers confirmed for the event so far include Daniel Rajkumar from White Label Crowdfunding and rebuildingsociety, Alex Letts from U Account, Henri Murison of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership, Yorkshire Post business editor Mark Casci, Graham Pearce from KPMG/NorthInvest and Tom Bridges of both Leeds City Council and NorthInvest.

A spokesperson for NorthInvest said: “Northinvest is delighted to have attracted such a high calibre of Fintech specialists to our second event of the year.

“We are keen to facilitate a truly collaborative environment in which to frame the thinking and actions required to make Yorkshire the most significant fintech hub in the UK.”

NorthInvest was founded in 2015 as a not-for-profit mutual by digital entrepreneur Dr Adam Beaumont, following the success of a previous aql-backed initiative, IXLeeds.

Aiming to make it easier for the region’s start-ups to access crucial early funding and free business advice and support it provides a platform which connects angel investors with ventures in the North, some of which have historically struggled to compete for cash against the more prominent digital community in London.

The event will take place on November 14 at 8am and is free. Visit www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/northinvest-leeds-and-yorkshire-fintech-summit-leedsfintech-registration-38758995198 for more information.
