With the world’s greatest cycling race due to start this Saturday outside its front door, Leeds’ top retail and leisure destination – The Light is hosting free bike pods for cyclists.

On Friday July 4, 120 bike pods will be installed in St Ann’s Gardens at The Light, offering free bike parking for cyclists peddling into Leeds city centre for the big race. The pods will then become a permanent fixture at the centre.

The pods have been designed by Leeds-based company, Wybone, who specialise in the designing and manufacturing of street furniture.

Company director, Richard Cooper said: “As a manufacturer, the business is always looking for new and inventive methods to reduce its impact on the environment, and designing these bike pods for The Light has been a great honour to help support the legacy of cycling in Yorkshire.”

Brian Oakley, centre manager at The Light/La Lumière said: “There’s no doubt that everyone in Leeds is getting very excited for Saturday July 5, and with many roads closing, we are thrilled to be offering free parking for all those who are planning to cycle in to watch the big event.”
