Yorkshire's small and medium-sized enterprises could be missing out on opportunities to do business abroad.

A new report - The eXport factor: British SMEs' approach to doing business overseas, published by Barclays Business in collaboration with Kingston University's Small Business Research Centre - says firms need to be more proactive rather than reactive in seeking foreign custom.

The research suggests that 37 per cent of those who export claim to have fallen into it, with only 30 per cent actively integrating it into their business strategy.
