Filey planning a bumper year

A BUOYANT future is planned for the Yorkshire resort of Filey, one of the smallest in the country, in a five year-plan which has been drawn up by a town working group.

Among the plans is the setting up of a discovery centre to focus on Filey's maritime history, especially John Paul Jones, the American Civil War hero, and its traditional coble boat fishing industry.

The group wants to see improved access to Filey's seafront through the use of a shuttle bus service, road train or cliff lift, and the appointment of a town-centre manager.

The chairman of the group, Coun Aileen Newbury, said :"Filey had a good season last year despite the recession."
