Fears for Peacock outlets

OUTLETS belonging to The Peacock Group in Leeds, Wakefield and Harrogate face an uncertain future after the firm went into administration.

There are three Peacocks outlets in Leeds – at the Merrion Centre, Crown Retail Park and Kirkstall Morrisons – and on Trinity Walk in Wakefield and Hookstone Chase in Harrogate.

The business – which has debts of £240m – employs more than 400 staff in Cardiff and 9,000 across the UK. It operates 611 stores and 49 concessions.

The Group’s Bonmarche subsidiary has not entered administration but a notice of intention to appoint administrators has been filed.

Peacock Group chief executive Richard Kirk said: “Peacocks is a brand with great heritage, and it is with deep sadness that we have been left with no other option but to place the business into administration.

“We have worked tirelessly over the past year to agree a new financial structure to take the business forward in the current, tough retail environment, including seeking new investment for the business.”

KPMG have been appointed as administrators for the Peacocks Group.
