Appointments: Taking on the new job roles

The York, Selby and Malton Business Advice Centre (YBAC) has appointed York businessman Bob Scrase as its new chairman.

Harvard Engineering plc, a firm in the LED and wireless street lighting industries, has expanded its sales and marketing team. Barry Bennett joins as sales manager for the North of England and Scotland and Richard Adelsberg joins as marketing executive.

York solicitors has welcomed a new member to its team. Michael H Menzies-Baird, who specialises in personal injury, debt recovery and general commercial litigation, has launched his own new legal practice, MMB Law, at Westfield House in Nether Poppleton. He is joining a group of solicitors who each practise independently but share premises.

Leeds Building Society has appointed Les Platts as a non-executive director. He joins the Board, which consists of four executive directors and seven non-executive directors under the leadership of chairman Robin Smith.

BAILEY Maintenance, which has bases in Leeds and Ilkley, has strengthened its senior management team with the appointment of Jon Lucas to the position of strategic accounts director.

JONES Lang LaSalle has appointed new graduate Laura Thacker in its Leeds office. She will undertake three placements during her training period with the firm and is currently working in the Property and Asset Management team. Jones Homes (Northern) Ltd is strengthening its team with the appointment of a new site manager, John Howell, at its Millers Croft development in Barwick-in-Elmet.

INTERNATIONAL textile house Hainsworth has employed Stuart Allen to manage export sales of its protective clothing fabrics.

KPMG's Leeds office has two new Partner appointments and four new Directors. The firm's two new Partners are Chris Stott in Transaction Services and Nick Evans in Pensions Investment. The four new directors are Annette Barker in Forensic; Ian Brotherton and Neville Dastoor in Financial Services; and Martin Tyley in IT Advisory.

LEEDS law firm Gordons has enhanced its planning and environmental law offering with the appointment of planning expert Kate Butterfield.

ONE of Yorkshire's oldest law firms, Kirbys LLP, has strengthened its estate planning and administration department with the appointment of solicitor Sally Inston.

JM Glendinning, the Guiseley-based independent insurance brokers and financial advisors, has appointed a new Operations Director to the main board. Senior insurance industry professional Nigel Law joins JMG from UK General. Nigel's role at JMG will be to manage and co-ordinate many aspects of the business.

LEEDS-based IT services company virtualDCS has expanded its technical support team following a series of new business wins. Ross Devine and Matt Livesey have both joined the company from recruitment business The Interim Register.

COMMERCIAL law firm Shulmans, of Leeds, has made an addition to its Employment team with the appointment of Lee Stephens, an employment law specialist. He joins from Chambers-listed Andrew Jackson of Hull.
