A husband and wife are revving up to take tourists on a three-wheeled trip round the stunning Yorkshire Dales.
Jason and Judith Richards are set to launch their new range of Yorkshire Trike Tours later this year in time for the Tour de France.
Using their stunning boom trikes, the Horsforth couple hope to offer a unique experience for visitors to Yorkshire.
Judith, 50, told the YEP: “We’ve had a boom trike now for about six years and when you’re out there with it, the reaction is fantastic. If you park it up for five minutes and come back, there’s always a crowd around it and people are so positive.
“We’ve both worked all our lives and decided it was time to try something new and it’s something we’re both really passionate about. When you find something you feel that way about, it really doesn’t feel like work.”
The incredible trikes combine elements of a motorcycle and a car and will be chauffeur driven by Jason, 51, on a variety of routes around the Dales.
But first the couple will have to get the idea past council licensing bosses.
Because the tours will set off from Ilkley, they need a private hire licence from the authority. As the application is the first of its kind in the area, it has prompted a city-wide consultation about “novelty” private hire vehicles.
Members of the public and taxi trade are being invited to share their views after the authority’s licensing committee considered an initial background report last week.
Councillor Rebecca Charlwood, chair of the licensing committee, said: “This is the first time we have received an application for novelty vehicle so it’s important that we gather the views of the public and members of the trade. We must make sure we draft a policy which takes into account respondents’ views and the different requirements of a novelty, tourist vehicle.”
The consultation period will last until June 12 ahead of a decision. Email your views to email@example.com
