Burglar stole from Leeds Art Gallery and city centre bars

A PROLIFIC burglar targeted Leeds Art Gallery and bars in the city centre during his latest spree of offending, a court heard.

Alexander Putland, 30, entered private offices at the art gallery at 2.30pm on December 27 last year and stole a laptop, worth £400, which belonged to the assistant manager.

Putland was identified after footage of the offence was captured on CCTV.

Leeds Crown Court heard Putland carried out another burglary at Roxy Ball Room, on Boar Lane, later that day at 4pm.

Louise Pryke, prosecuting, said Putland forced open a door to a staff room and took a till drawer containing £100.

Putland entered Neighbourhood bar, on Greek Street, the following day and stole equipment worth almost £2,000 from a DJ booth.

Miss Pryke said Putland had a history of stealing from bars in Leeds city centre.

Putland, of Burlington Road, Beeston, pleaded guilty to two offences of burglary and one of theft.

Stephen Smithson, mitigating, said Putland had a long-standing history of heroin addiction and his offending was committed to pay for his habit.

Putland was jailed for 30 weeks
