A new city centre bar will offer free food and drink to punters when it open its doors for the first time today.

LAB, which stands for Leeds Arena Bar, will treat customers from 5pm to 7pm. The new venue at the Merrion Centre’s Arena Quarter looks over the Leeds arena and has a science-theme, with microscopes dotted around the bar and oil drums used for furniture.

The new venue has created 15 jobs and is owned by the Jones Bar Group, which also runs Roxy Ballroom, Roxy Lanes, Shed and Brooklyn Bar.

Managing director Matthew Jones said: “This bar incorporates everything we love about our other eight bars across Leeds and we’re hopeful that Leeds locals will share our passion for it.”
