A 12-year-old boy has been left with serious injuries after a fall in an abandoned factory.

The child fell from a height inside the derelict building on Modder Avenue in Armley just before 7pm on Tuesday evening.

He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance, and his condition is described as serious but stable.

The accident comes just a month after a 13-year-old boy was hurt after falling from the roof of a disused building in Garforth.

Police have liaised with the Health and Safety Executive over the Armley incident and the premises have been secured.

Detective Inspector Charlotte Hails, of Leeds District CID, said: "There are no suspicious circumstances and we are treating the incident as a tragic accident.

"We would like to remind young people of the potential dangers of entering abandoned buildings and other places such as building sites and we hope parents will assist us by reinforcing the message."
