An amateur boxer has died following a boxing match in Beeston, police have confirmed.

The 28-year-old man had been competing at a boxing event at Dewsbury Road Social Club, in Beeston, when he was taken ill and collapsed shortly after an amateur match on Friday at around 8pm.

He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary in a critical condition and was pronounced dead on Saturday morning.
