THE site of a former school in Leeds is to be developed into a £2.5m centre for people with learning disabilities.

Leeds Mencap is transforming the former site of Mount St Mary’s Primary School on Raincliffe Road, which is currently a disused plot of land into the centre, which will also provide space local community groups and a new nursery.

The charity launched its Space for Me campaign in June to raise the final funds needed. Now it is launching a Buy a Brick scheme to source the remaining £500,000 needed for the project.

Bernie Gahan, project manager at Leeds Mencap, said: “We’re delighted to confirm that we’re going ahead with this project.”
