Fifteen birds were found slaughtered after burglars broke into sheds at an allotment overnight.

Chickens, quails and a turkey were found dead at an allotment on Park Lodge Lane, Eastmoor, Wakefield.

Police said the burglars broke into the seven sheds between 2am and around 8am on Monday.

They are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen any suspicious behaviour at the allotment.

Insp Ian Williams, Wakefield Police’s neighbourhood inspector, said: “This is an extremely unusual incident which has caused understandable distress to the owners of these animals.

“We currently believe 15 birds have been killed and are exploring possible motives for what has taken place.”

“It is possible the person or persons responsible may had blood on their clothing so if you have seen someone disposing bloodied clothing please get in touch.”

Anyone with information should call Wakefield NPT on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
