Big sales for St George's Crypt charity book

Leeds homeless charity St George's Crypt is marking a fundraising milestone after successful sales of its new book.

Entertaining More Angels, a collection of interviews with service users and volunteers, has flown off the shelves at Waterstones and the charity’s base and has now generated £7,000 in proceeds to be ploughed back into work with vulnerable people.

Written by people supported by the organisation, the book also includes inspirational photos and illustrations. Creative agency Biskit designed and printed the volume and students from Leeds College of Art also helped with production.

St George’s Crypt warden and former client Darren’s image is displayed on the front cover:

“I was a bit sceptical about being on the front cover, but I quite like to see it now, although people do take the mickey from time to time.”

Edward Ryder from Biskit was delighted to support the project.

“This was our main charity initiative in recent times, and the most moving project we have ever worked on. We’re thrilled to see how much the book has already raised for St George’s Crypt and we hope this continues to rise.

“This was a real team effort, and we couldn’t have done it without the help from Leeds College of Art staff and students, who captured the photos, illustrations and interviews that we needed.”

To celebrate the book’s success, St George’s Crypt is holding a special event on September 8 which will see those who have contributed to its publication tell their stories and experiences in the first person to an audience. For more details, visit www.stgeorgescrypt.org.uk.
