Bands tune up for Leeds rock festival's 10th birthday this weekend

Rock stars will make some noise as they take centre stage at the Slam Dunk festival '“ which is celebrating its 10th birthday this weekend.

More than 15,000 music fans will descend on the city to catch headliners Panic! At the Disco as well as other big names such as New Found Glory, Of Mice and Men and Mayday Parade.

Speaking previously, festival founder and director Ben Ray said: “I’m so happy to be able to do the festival again.

“I can’t thank all the different departments in Leeds City Council that have come together to make the event work.”

The sold-out event, which will be held in Leeds on Saturday, May 28, will be spread across venues including Millennium Square, Leeds Beckett University and the O2 Academy.

It was originally launched as a one-off festival on Millennium Square but this year will tour three locations, welcoming more than 40,000 music fans in total.

Speaking previously, councillor Judith Blake, leader of Leeds City Council said: “It’s exciting to be welcoming back Slam Dunk to Millennium Square, which has become a real focal point for live music, concerts and performances in the city centre.

“Last year’s Slam Dunk created a huge buzz and I’m sure this year will be bigger and better than ever.”

To mark the festival’s 10th anniversary, bands that have played at the event over the last decade will also perform.

After the event in Leeds, the festival will move to Birmingham on May 29 Hatfield on May 30.

Big names that have performed at the event over the years include Fall Out Boy, Reel Big Fish, Paramore and You Me At Six.
