Band gets new tubas thanks to masonic lodge

Guiseley Brass Band will be hitting the high notes more easily after buying two new bass instruments, thanks to a £3,000 grant from West Riding Masonic Charities.

The band had been using its previous instruments since 1936, which meant they were suffering from inevitable faults, knocks and scrapes.

The new modern tubas will improve the band’s general sound quality and are easier to play. It is hoped they will encourage younger musicians to join the 148-year-old band.

The members of Fairfax Masonic Lodge in Guiseley secured the grant on the band’s behalf. Guiseley Brass Band is an important part of the community and plays at many charity events in the Leeds, Bradford and Ilkley areas. Members can also be seen playing carols around the local streets every Christmas morning.
