As the countdown approaches to the Queen’s official birthday celebrations this weekend, bakers and confectioners at the famous cafe tea rooms have created a treat inspired by the monarch’s favourite pet.

The Royal Corgi biscuit, each one of which is iced and decorated by hand, is already proving popular with customers, and staff expect to sell thousands in the coming days.

“They are the perfect treat to toast to the Queen’s birthday this Sunday.”

Corgis are synonymous with the Royal Family and Her Majesty the Queen has owned more than 30 Corgis since she was a young child.

The Corgi name originated from the Welshmen who developed the breed and called them “dwarf dog” due to their stature. In Welsh, “cor” means dwarf and “gi” means dog.
