Award for revamped Leeds building

The Printworks Campus scooped the Altered Building award in Leeds Architecture Awards 2016 at a recent ceremony.

The accolades celebrated the best of the city’s many developments that were completed over the last three years.

Judged by experts including British architectural designer Kit Martin and former civic architect John Thorp, the Printworks Campus was recognised for its renovation of a historic converted print hall.

Jane Pither, deputy principal corporate services at Leeds City College, said: “This iconic building houses contemporary learning spaces and state-of-the-art facilities.

“Our commitment to providing exceptional learning environments continues with the development of the final phase of Printworks which will be complete for the next academic year.”

This final £10 million phase, which is under construction, will revolutionise the Computing, Business and Information Technology departments within the School of Technology and incorporate other services that the college offers including a restaurant, deli, spa and hair salon.

Situated on the South Bank development the building will accommodate more than 1,300 students.

The Leeds Architecture Awards celebrate excellence in architectural design and aim to promote a sense of pride in the new developments that are reshaping the city.

The shortlisted schemes for the Altered Building category included Street Lane Nursery, Algernon Firth Building, Carlton Green, Crispin Lofts, Edward Boyle Library and Seacroft Grange Care Village.
