The 12 hour open mic event will raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.

Hyde Park Book Club will open its doors for the mammoth event on Monday, May 30.

Starting at 11am and finishing at 11pm, the day will see writers, musicians, comedians and other artists take to the mic to share their work and raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.

More than 24 programmed speakers will be performing during the day, and with open mic sessions every 15 minutes there are plenty of opportunities for people to get involved.

Organiser Sophie Joelle said: “We want to encourage as many local people, and those from further afield, to come down to Hyde Park Book Club. People can sign up for the open mic sessions on the day or just watch and enjoy the performances. Creating a creative, open environment is really important to us, so anyone and everyone can get up and have a go.”

People can drop in and out throughout the day and there will be prizes given out at the end of the night to those who stay for the full 12 hours.

Performers who have signed up for the event range from writers to a banjo-playing country/folk artist. Food and drink will be available to buy all day and there will be no shortage of entertainment.

Jack Simpson, co-owner of Hyde Park Book Club, said: “We love the idea that creativity can be channelled towards positive social ends, so were super happy when Sophie approached us to run the 12 Hour Open Mic for Stand Up To Cancer.”

The event is Pay As You Feel, and all proceeds go to Stand Up To Cancer. Stand Up To Cancer has so far raised more than £25 million for cancer research.

People do not need to book tickets in advance of the open mic event. More information can be found on the Facebook page:
