Two men have been arrested on suspicion of drugs and gun offences after shots were fired at a car in Leeds.

Police were called to Burmantofts at 3.20pm on Tuesday afternoon after reports of gunfire on Appleton Way.

Detective Inspector Mark Swift, of West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET), said: “The car had driven off and the two male suspects had left the area on foot.

“Armed officers attended the scene and followed another vehicle which had driven off at speed.

“That vehicle stopped on Vinery Place and two men ran off. The men, aged 19 and 20, were detained nearby on suspicion of drugs and firearms offences and are currently in custody.”

Police cordoned the area off while investigations took place and enquiries are ongoing.

Det Insp Swift added: “Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team are conducting additional patrols of the area to provide reassurance to the local community.”
