Armed robber flees on foot after holding up Leeds convenience store at gunpoint

A man ran away on foot after threatening staff at a Co-op store with a handgun.

The robber entered the shop on Swarcliffe Avenue brandishing the weapon at 9.30pm on Thursday night.

He stole alcohol and tobacco before fleeing on foot into the Swarcliffe housing estate.

Nobody was hurt in the incident.

The suspect is described as white, 6ft tall and stocky wearing a grey hooded top with red on the hood, black tracksuit bottoms/trousers, black trainers and a navy blue hat.

Detective Inspector Richard Holmes of Leeds District CID, said: “We are appealing for information to this incident and currently have a number of enquiries ongoing.

“We would very much like to speak to anyone who saw a man fitting the suspect’s description leaving the store and walking into the estate in the aftermath of the robbery, or entering it earlier in the evening.

“Anyone who has information is asked to contact Leeds District CID on 101 referencing crime number 13180173117

“Information can also be given anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”

A 40-year old man has today been arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody.
