Six men threatened two members of staff at a Leeds grocery shop with bladed weapons before fleeing with cash and bottles of alcohol.

Police were called to the scene of the armed robbery at the shop in Colenso Place, Holbeck just before 5.30pm yesterday.

A 56-year-old man and a woman were confronted in the raid but were not harmed by the men, described of being black, who left the shop in the direction of Brown Lane East.

Detective Inspector David Roberts, of Leeds District CID, said: “Extensive enquiries are ongoing into this incident which would clearly have been a very frightening experience for the male and female members of shop staff inside.

“We would like to speak to anyone who has information or who saw six black males fleeing the scene and heading towards Brown Lane East, in the immediate aftermath of the robbery. I would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen these males gathering near or entering the shop shortly before the robbery took place.

“Anyone who has information can contact Leeds District CID on 101 referencing crime number 13170368097.

“Information can also be given anonymously to the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”
