Leeds City Council has put forward three options for helping people getting to and from the Yeadon airport by road.

Two involve building a new road connecting the A65 and the A658, at respective costs of £50million and £75million.

The third is a £15million proposal to upgrade existing roads.

Since November more than 2,200 people have taken part in the survey, which closes on Friday.

Coun Richard Lewis, the council’s executive member for transport, said: “The consultation has sparked a great deal of debate which is what we wanted and I’d like to thank everyone who has taken the time to either come to one of the drop-in sessions or fill in the survey.

“Leeds-Bradford Airport has a key role to play in the future growth of our economy, so we’d like to hear the views of many more people before this initial consultation period ends.”

The airport is one of the fastest growing in the UK, with 3.3million passengers passing through its doors each year.

Following the end of the consultation, a report will be considered by the council and West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

If approved, the scheme would be likely to be completed by 2023.
