Aberford Parish Council donated the amount for a refurbishment project for the building, which is independently run.

Julie Sou, clerk to the council, said: “Quite a lot of work was needed on the village hall, it was in a bad state. Our members very much support this community asset.”

A statement from the village hall’s committee, posted on the parish council website, thanks them for their “generosity” and says work has now started on the renovations, and repointing has now been completed. It adds: “We have managed to secure an additional grant from the National Lottery which will enable us to tackle some long overdue jobs inside the hall.

“The most noticeable of these improvements will be a new floor in the main hall which will be laid during the May half term. Our dancers are especially delighted.”

The previous contractor has finished their part of the project and organisers are now actively seeking quotes for the remainder of the work.
